To maximize the effectiveness of the Laptop program and the development of ICT skills, Year 8 students during 2010 will be undertaking a Certificate 1 course in IT. This will involve students completing an online course that will result in the attainment of a formal qualification, a Certificate 1 in Information Technology.
The online nature of the course means that students will be able to work through the assigned material at their own pace both at school and at home. The online Skills Suite provides up to 80 hours of interactive lessons with pre and post test assessment that determine student learning plans and validate skills. Also included are 10-12 tasks per module and 4 major projects that provide real world context around what has been learnt.
Students will have a dedicated technology lesson once a cycle with Mr Thurston to work through the course modules and complete other related technology lessons. Students will be issued with a username and password during these lessons which they will use to access the Certificate 1 courseware.
