Textiles Technology is a 2 year practical based course that is open to both boys and girls.  The course aims to encourage students to develop skills in creative and practical areas.  This course covers 3 content areas all of which include a practical component totalling 80% of the course time.

The three content areas covered are:

  • Design – aspects of design, pattern selection and selection of fabrics for constructing fashion garments and soft furnishings, appliqué hand beading.
  • Structures and Properties – studies of fibres, investigation of yarns and fabrics, care and labelling, eg. Accessories such as felted bags, scarves, toys and soft furnishings.
  • Textiles and Society – fashion, cultural influences, consumer selection and rights and textiles in performing arts, eg. Lingerie, sleepwear, dyeing and printing

Assessment includes practical work, laboratory exercises, design folio as well as bookwork, test, research and presentation of reports.

Subject cost of $30 in Year 9 and also in Year 10 is involved, as well as cost of personal practical work ($60 over 2 years).
