Band

Concert Bands
BHS has a huge banding program which caters to the needs and standards of all students - from beginner level to very advanced.

The program is structured around five ensembles:

  • Concert Band (all musicians Year 7 - 12)
  • Junior Concert Band (Year 7 & 8)
  • Junior Stage Band (brass and saxophone players and rhythm section Years 7, 8, 9)
  • Senior Stage Band (as above Years 10, 11, 12)
  • Percussion Ensemble (drummers only Years 7 - 12)

These ensembles rehearse at lunchtimes with the exception of the Concert band which rehearses Monday afternoons 2.10pm - 4pm.

The experienced and ever enthusiastic conductor/director is Mrs Gill.

Instruments include: piccolo, flute, clarinet, oboe, bass clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, trumpet, trombone, french horn, tuba, bass guitar, glockenspeil, xylophone, timpani drums and drum kit.

BHS instrumental ensembles constantly participate in Bandfest and other school based and community based performances.

Peripatetic Tutoring Program

BHS offers an extensive tutoring program for interested students.

Private and group instrumental lessons are offered on flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, guitar, bass guitar and singing.

Tutors are specialists on their instrument and lessons happen during school hours on a rotating timetable.

Tutors are paid by the term, and all fees are paid in advance to the front office.
